What are the Best Scooter Types for Your Needs?

Types of Scooters Guide

With so many different types of scooters on the market, it can be overwhelming to choose which one is the best for your specific needs. Whether you are just starting your journey in purchasing a scooter, or you have had many scooters in the past, it’s always a difficult choice to pick what style and scooter type will best fit your needs as your wants. In this guide, we will go through the six types of scooters, as well as considerations that you need to make with each. First, let’s dive into the travel scooter category.

Travel Scooters

Travel scooters, also known as micro-scooters, are equipt with a super minimal yet functional design. These types of scooters are designed with Lithium-ion batteries, meaning they are safe to take on an airplane. Often they are foldable, like the line of EasyFold, or disassemble, like the Pride Go Go Endurance Li.

While they can be used for everyday mobility, they are recommended more for those wanting to travel as they can be more expensive than other scooter options. Typically travel scooters start around $2,500 CAD and go up from there. This is mainly due to the Lithium-ion batteries, which can be pretty expensive to purchase.

Portable Scooters

Next, we have portable scooters. Portable scooters are perfect for those who need a little help getting errands done or visiting family. This is because they can be broken down and disassembled into multiple pieces, making them light enough and small enough to fit into most vehicles.

The quick snap assembly makes it very easy to break them down into between three and five pieces, depending on the model. Portable scooters are perfect for indoor usage like grocery trips and going to the mall, and can handle outdoor sidewalks well. These scooter types are among the most affordable, with models starting as low as $1,250 CAD.

Mid-Sized Scooters

Moving on up in size, we have mid-sized scooters. As the name implies, mid-sized scooters are typically in the middle of the pack in terms of size, features, and durability. We recommend mid-sized scooters over portable scooters if you plan to use your scooter every day, for at least a few hours a day.

This is because they are often more comfortable, have more room, have more accessory options, and overall more convenient. You are able to get mid-sized scooters that disassemble if that is a key feature that you’re looking for. Our best-selling mid-sized scooters include the Fortress S425 and Victory 10.2 3 and 4-wheel models.

Full-Sized Scooters

Next on our list of the top scooter types, we have full-sized scooters. Full-sized scooters are typically fully-loaded with features, like headlights, suspension, and long-distance drive capabilities. These scooters can drive longer, faster, and more comfortably.

With speeds up to 14mph, a full-sized scooter can take you *almost* anywhere. Full-sized scooters are difficult to travel with, because of their weight and size, and most require a van to transport. Because of all of their features and capabilities, full-sized scooters are more expensive. Typically full-sized scooters will start around $3,000 CAD.

Heavy-Duty Scooters

The key selling point of heavy-duty scooter types is their high weight capacity of 400 pounds plus. In order to carry this weight, they have a reinforced chassis to ensure you are comfortable and secure while riding.

Most heavy-duty scooter types will have many of the same features that you see in full-sized scooters, as there is a lot of overlap between the two categories. There is a smaller list of heavy-duty scooters, but a few of our favourites include the Cobra GT-4 with a 450-pound weight capacity and Pride Pursuit XL with a 400-pound weight capacity. Heavy-duty scooter types have a wide variety of prices depending on your needs, please contact us if you are not sure what is best for your budget and needs.

All-Terrain Scooters

Finally, the last scooter type we are talking about is the all-terrain scooter. All-terrain scooters are perfect for those wanting a little adventure in their lives. This genre of scooters is the most well-equipt for outdoor driving, including through snow, high inclines, and rocky areas.

These scooters are fully-loaded with top-of-the-line features. This includes lights, electronics, comfort packages, and more. They boast a high ground clearance, full suspension, and large tires to make your ride fun and comfortable. Because they are fully loaded, they are the most expensive among the scooter types on the market. Our favourite all-terrain scooter is the new Baja Wrangler.
